Maharaja’s Technological Institute is the oldest Polytechnic in Kerala state. Located in the heart of Thrissur, the polytechnic was started as a war technicians training center by the Govt. of India during world war II. In 1946, their training center was named as Maharaja’s Technological Institute and diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering were started in 1947-48.Later on in 1991-92 and 1998-99 Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering. Were also started. When the directorate of Technical education was formed under Govt. of Kerala, the institution came under the administrative control of the Directorate.Maharaja’s Technological Institute is a premier technical education center in Kerala targeting the rural people. Even though, the institution is located in the heart of Thrissur town, it is surrounded by a number of villages which are backward. This institution serves as a Nodal Polytechnic for the Thrissur District in which seven polytechnics are located. The college has hostel facilities for men, which attracts students from distant rural locations.
Facilities
The polytechnic is fully equipped with all the latest Audio Visual educational aids.Mechanical workshop is equipped with lathes,milling machines, plainers, shapers, slotters and CNCs .We will provide basic and advanced training in each trade. The college owned men's hostel provide a nourishing environment which attracts students from distant rural locations. The Hostel's each have a warden who is usually a faculty member, to supervise and to address any grievances.
At Maharaja' s Technological Institute we believe in the overall development of the individual. So as not to remain confined to excellence in academics there is avid participation by the students in various sports activities . We are proud to say that many laurels and accolades have been won by the performance of our teams in these meets.
The Campus gets connected to the World Wide Web. The connection is distributed through the campus network to an intranet connecting various laboratories and subnets inside each lab, departments, workshops, library and office . All nodes are connected through structured cabling.
Placement
Training and Placement Cell(TPC)
The Training and Placement Cell, (TPC) of the Polytechnic is a body of active students, guided by Staff-in-Charge. Student members are specially selected to carry out the responsible works of the cell. TPC dedicates itself to help students to develop their personality and establish their careers.
The activities of TPC are :-
Preparing the students to face competitive examinations and interviews through intensive training programs including group discussions, mock interviews, and the basics of behavior and body language. Experienced Professionals from the industry are invited for some of the training programs.
Assisting students in career-planning, employment and providing information on higher studies.
Inviting companies to the polytechnic campus for recruiting students for placement in their organizations. TPC offers the companies all facilities for conducting their presentations, tests and interviews.

Alumni association of this Institute is formed in the general body meeting conducted on 9.12.2006. The association is having an executive committee of 15 members. The name of this association is MAHARAJA'S (M.T.I) ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.

Library
The Library has a wide collection of latest books, periodicals and CDs. This collection is expanded and updated each year. The open access catalogue system (OPAC) provides reading and reference facilities for both faculty and students. Online and offline information is offered and new resources are added to provide a holistic and comprehensive service.
